Focalin During summer vacation?

My son was diagnosed ADHD, he is 8 years old and was prescribed Focalin 10mgs 1 dosage per day in order to be able to perform better in school. Should he still be taking this medication during the summer? I have not yet asked his Doctor but I would like other opinions. I feel that he should not be on the drug as his hyperactivity is not unmanageable and his behavior on the drug has me concerned. He is very listless, has no appetite and gets upset easily.
