eye replacement

by debbie187, Jun 20, 2008 10:44PM
my husband had a cornea transplant about 20 years ago.  it has begun to deteriorate. it is really bothering him- sensitivity to light, painful etc.  his dr. has said that he will probably have to have the eye removed.  i realize there is nothing that can be done to save the eye.  can a donor eye be used for cosmetic reasons.  he is very upset about how he will look afterwards and is really bothered about the prospect of wearing a patch. also f he waits too long about doing something is there a danger of damaging his good eye.

No eye transplants, but they have wonderful artificial eyes. Look up Iowa plastics on the web. Also, get a local referral

i wish all transplants lasted forever, but they don't.  They don't full orbit transplants but, there are fantastic artificial eyes on the market today that your husband can use instead of wearing a patch.  my heart goes out to your husband.  i know it can be difficult but looking at the bright side, he still has one working eye!
