Thankful for my Pain Mgt Doctors

by CURLSNJ, Jun 21, 2008 11:31AM
After reading many posts about how many pain mgt doctors are not helpful, ignorant, suspicious, and unwilling to give the amount of meds a person needs to control their pain  I have to say I am so thankful for mine! In fact last month when I went they gave me the usual pain meter scale and I told them I have been in lot  of pain last mth.. I put it at 8.5 ( thats with already being on 160 mg oxycontin plus 4- 5 mg morphines for breakthru pain )  He said that is just  not  cutting it ( me being in that much pain).. and he upped by dose to 3-60 a day instead of 2 80 a day.. and kept me on the 5 mg breakthrus.)He  actually  wanted to raise  it a bit higher ..but I said no.. I am already so fatigued.  I know now that I have doctors who are of  the new school of thinking  and not the old school .

You have a great point here, so many have such a hard time finding someone to treat their pain adequately that we overlook the great doctors who do go out of their way to help. I like you am very fortunate to have a great doc and we should be appreciative that they are so willing to help us. I am definitely grateful for my doc and let him know. I have been on the same dose for years and just a few months ago went up 20 mg and the doc always ask if I need an increase. Like you I do not want to go up and there's the fact that it cost more and if one goes up unnessacarily they will get to the point where they can't get relief and cant increase anymore. That scares me as I have seen it happen, the pt will have to detox and start over at that point because their tolerance will have gotten so high they are not able to increase anymore.
Thanks for the post and welcome to the community we are certainly glad to have you.
