Femoral Neuropathy - Overweight and On My Feet

by thegoddessdiana, Jun 21, 2008 06:57PM
I have terrible pain shooting from my groin and down my left leg with numbness too.  Also pain and weakness in the front of my thighs.  It's debilitating.  I'm taking Neurontin - 600 mg. 3x a day and without it I couldn't function.  I work at Starbucks and am on my feet for 4, 5 or 6 hrs. at a time.  I'm hoping to get another job in an office very soon but I need this job in the meantime.  I'm overweight, especially in my abdomen, about 30 lbs.  I saw an internist this week who told me I have femoral neuropathy and losing weight will be the answer and it will go away then.  Am I permanent damaging nerves by the weight and/or being on my feet?  If I get off my feet will this go away?

Kind of not really answering your question, but just wanted to understand.  With all this going on, a diagnosis, and a worsening of your symptoms on standing, together with the prospect of a new job soon, WHY haven't you been signed off as sick?  Maybe I don't know Starbucks policies very well but if you are a salaried employee you are enititled to sick time.  Please go back to your doctor and ask for the relevant paperwork.  Until this new job starts, why do you have to put yourself through daily suffering?  Sorry am exhausted right now otherwise would talk further about your symptoms.  Hope you get other responses and for goodness sake take some sick leave!  People do it for far less reasons than this, and it's not as if you need to impress your employers, you are leaving.  Sorry you've caught me at the last post I can answer, am about to keel over asleep.  Wish you well.
