klonopin, xanax and ativan

Hey Guys,
Do any of you know the difference in these benzos, like which one is supposed to do what and what is stronger and less strong, etc? I've taken Ativan for anxiety as needed, and my doc mentioned switching to klonopin or xanax since the ativan doesnt work that great anymore...can anyone help?

So I know this is from2 months ago but I have been taking Buspar for 4 years now and it works wonders for anxiety. It's not fast acting like Ativan and takes a few weeks to get into your system but once it does you will rarely have anxiety/panic attacks if ever. I went from being one constant panic attack to only having them a couple times a month and I have Ativan for those rare occasions when I do get one. Also I have no side effects from the buspar. I hope this helps.

Xanax reacts quicker & stronger from the beginning. Klodipian last longer but doesnt kick in as strong. I've been on all 3. Idr what they say bout adivan. I have horrible anxiety & panic attacks. For the general anxiety klodipian was better but I need xanax for panic attacks. I was on both till I got prego. Very low dose klodipian to try and balance me & 1mg Xanax for panic attacks.

I have been on 1mg. of Xanax for 26 years. My ***** psyciatrist put me on
lithium as a substtitute for benzos. I had a seizure at 65 mph, and hit a
bridge, and I'm here to talk about it. Stopping Xanax 3xs daily caused my
seizure. My doctor is a pius smuck. He only cares that I switch to suboxone
instead of pain relieving Peroset. I have Hep C and Cirrohosis. My blood
panel was perfect 6 days ago. All the info I can find says nothing about
causing further liver damage. It's my life and I'll do what I want. I did not
get to be 61 by chance. I've gone back to college to get a degree in alco-
hol & drug  counseling. Literally screw my shrink.

I take Klonpin doc gives me 60 for the month, to help with stress.
I am out of it right now have been on it for about 4 months now.
My mother takes xanax have tried them to me there is not much difference in the two. Now buspar from what she said helped but made her sleepy I think but so does the xanax.
Really amazes me how many are addicted to pills these days, please don't take it as a putting anyone down I am addicted to them myself, my mother takes a lot of pills as does my step father.
My brother in law OD'd a year ago from use of percocet, vicidoin, and zanflex. We are not sure if he did it on purpose or if it was an accident as he was trying to get off the stuff but going thru a lot of emotional issues in his life. They went thru Katrina, then my father in law(his dad) passed away, then his wife kicked him out because of the drug use and how he was acting while on the meds.
He was so young and so full of life , he was only 43 yrs old.
My husband was very close to him as was I.
You would think that would of been a big slap in the face for me to stop the pills but you know the story you tell yourself you have it under control.
And I thought well I am only taking 6-8 pills a day he was popping like 20 a day.
But really its all bad , I realize that just hope I am strong enough to stop this.

Does anybody else think the percocet makes you swell up some, my legs and my face seem to not be as big right now in just this short time.
Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me. Lack of sleep , lack of food, etc.
I need some energy
Hope everyone else is having a good day.

I am taking 1mg of ativan or lorazepam as needed for my anxiety. My doc gave me 60 pills and no refills. She said if my anxiety continues, she would like to have me try Buspar. Anyone know what that is??? The Ativan works well, but makes me into a zombie, and it shouldn't be combined with alcohol which I have learned.

Hi Ive been in therapy a while. Doing pretty well now. What you are taking seems safe and low dose, I'm glad it's working out well for you. I take those kind of meds, too, but at larger doses, which I need. Howdy all! Some posts I can relate to much more readily than most, ergo I can't give advice about something about which I know nothing.  God Bless,  Steve

I take 0.5 mg klonipin and 50 mg of seroquel at night for sleep.  In the morning, I take 10 mg Lexapro.  Things seem to be working okay.

Thank you so much for your response!! I will probably stick to the ativan then, cuz the LAST thing I need is to get addicted to a benzo!!!

Once you start the xanax it's powerful hard to withdraw. ALL benzos carry this risk though. To avoid the trap, it's best to not take them for more than 2 weeks or dependency can occur rapidly. Hope this helps.  Steve

Watch that Klonopin (spelling), it is one of the most addictive of the benzo's according to my shrink. I took it for a time to sleep, but didn't use it consistently, so as to not trade one addiction for another.

Just my $0.02, YMMV

Adivan is the best out of all you mentioned for addiction reasons..i took klonopin for 3 yrs, didn't do it to get high and never got high on it..my anxiety was horrible..But i got off c/t and it was the worst 13 days of my life, terrible withdrawals..My doc says adican is the least addictive..For me i love xanax, and knew it was not right for me and i was going to abuse it so i never filled my next script..maybe you can try and anti depressent with the adivan and it will help...That is what my doc did..i cannot get off of my lexapro and don't care if i have to take it all my life..
hopes this helps some
good luck
