Thigh Numbness/Result of Surgery?

by trusting2inspire, Jun 21, 2008 11:31PM
Hello Doctor,

Three days ago I had a right hydrocele removed (hydrocelectomy). Ever since then I have had this numbness in my Left outer thigh with occasional tingling. I have heard this condition is called meralgia paresthetica and can actually be caused by damage to nerves during hernia surgery.

Since I know hydrocele is similar to a hernia I was wondering if this is why im having the numbness in my thigh. However, the incision was not made in my groin but rather directly in my scrotum. Do you know of any reason as to why I would have this numbness? I am not obese (i weight only 115 pounds) nor do I wear tight clothing. However, I will have to say the day of my surgery they put on a dressing with jock strap along with my own personal underwear AND shorts. This was awfully tight. Could this have caused the damage? And if so how long of abstaining from tight clothing will this pain last?

Thanks for any help you can provide me I have a follow up appointment with my urologist in two weeks but I didnt want to wait this long for some type of answer especially if this numbness is a serious concern. I dont want to be losing blood supply etc.
