headache after tumor removal

by abyecho, Jun 22, 2008 09:15AM
I was recently diagnosed with pituitary apoplexy.  I had surgery a few weeks ago to remove my pituitary tumor.  I was told that my headache would go away about 2 weeks after surgery.  It's been almost 4 weeks and the headache is as bad as it ever was.  Is this normal?  Why won't my headache go away?  Any ideas how to get rid of it?

Thanks!

Hi.

The two weeks time frame that your doctor told you for the disappearance of the headaches is what is commonly observed among patients post-brain surgery.  However, it is also common for some pain to last longer for weeks.  This is usually a sign that the tissues are still healing inside, and that the site of operation may not have yet completely healed.  I believe that these headaches will disappear soon, but make sure you tell your doctor about other symptoms such as vomiting, blurred vision, or increasing sleeping time, as these symptoms may mean something else.  For now, have adequate rest, and pain medications can really help.

Regards and God bless.

Thank you SO much for responding!  I was beginning to worry, but you've helped relieve that.  I have been talking with my doctor and he also told me that he was confident the headache would go away, but I think I needed to hear it from someone else.  I'm a natural worrier.  :-)  Fortunately, I haven't had any other symptoms.  I'll continue to rest and think positive.  Thanks again!
