Have you heard of this?

by morgan970, Jun 22, 2008 01:31PM
My husband and I started our cycle on June 9th.  Everything was going wonderful it seemed, good follicles, Dr. retrieved 29 eggs 17 were mature and 15 fertilized.   Dr was suppose to call us on day 3 if he wanted to do a 5 day cycle but never called.  So we went to the office he said everything was looking good with all the embryos scoring  high.  He wanted to do a 5 day transfer, we went to the office on Tuesday and got called into his office he told us all the eggs had cleaved.  There was only one egg with good scores but not growing to his expectations.  So it didn't look good for us.  He said this happened probably because I over stimulated to the medications.   If this one doesn't work I am really scared to try again because I feel we didn't really even get to try once.  Please help I am  worried.

I've never done ivf before, so i don't really know what to say! I'm sorry! I just wanted to wish you good luck, and i hope everything works out for you! Maybe next time, if this time doesn't work, they can put you on something else, or a smaller dose, so that you don't over stimulate, and possibly have a better result!

I haven';t heard of this myself but that seems a really bad result considering the number of eggs.  I do know that some doctors really wouldn't want that high number to start with... my doctor says he'll actually cancel cycles with more than 20 follicles.  But each doc is different.  My last one was fine with pushing me to the 30+ mark (in term sof number of follicles).
However, you don't say what quality the embryos were.  You said they were "scoring high" but were they 8-cell embryos by day 3?  It's almost a rhetorical question because I don't know enough to tell you whether it is or isn't unusual for this to happen regardless of the quality of the embryos.
Perhaps you should ask the question to LvnEmbryos who is an embryologist on this forum.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Best of luck.

Thanks for your replies, I was not told much about anything.  So now I am more aware of what I need to do is ask my Dr. more questions.  This was my first cycle and just let them call the shots.  So I will now be more aware of things I need to know if this cycle does not work.  I hope everything works out for you as well.  Sending all of you lots of luck.
