feeding baby

by spec, Jun 23, 2008 08:46AM
It is very hot where I live.  I was wondering if I take my baby outside after a feeding can cause a upset stomach?  It seems like she spits up more when being out in the heat.  She is 4.5 months old and has to take Zantac and Levison drops for GERD.
Thanks

Intense heat can get to anyone, just like you and I may not feel well after being in the heat.  It may be that the heat is upsetting her stomach.  If you notice that she is spitting up a lot more when in the heat than when in the air, I would keep her inside.  Bummer for you but better for her.

I agree with energy_train's post but then I thought of something ....

Could it be the angle her body is at in the carrier you use outside vs. inside?  Some car seats, strollers, etc. seem to bring on reflux more than others!  So that is just a thought that you may be outside more than inside in the nicer weather and it may be the stroller or car seat or infant carrier vs. shat she uses when inside that is causing pressure to push up on her tummy ?

Thanks for the info.  I appreciate the feedback and it could be the combo of the heat and the angle of the carseat, stroller.  She is getting more control of her head and neck and she really doesn't want to recline back in the carseat anymore.  It almost looks like she tries to do a situp, which of course would make me throw up on a full belly too.   I am not using the carseat in the stroller anymore, so she is sitting more upright in the stroller.  I also just think she's just not tolerating the heat very.  I am not even going to try to stroll her outside anymore until she gets a little older and is sitting up better.  I have heard by 6 months of age the GERD gets better, especially since they are eating some baby foods.  I just hope she does grow out of it and she does not keep the reflux.  The bad part is, they say that it can be heriditary and I have reflux and have had to take Nexium for 8 years now.    Anyway, thanks again!
