Well, her point is only somewhat valid.  People with oral herpes (or any herpes, for that matter), aren't infectious every day, so its quite possible you could go years and not get it genitally from him.

In any case, its all speculation at this point, and your plan to get any symptoms cultured is a good one.

Next time I have an outbreak I'll go straight to doctor and have it cultured.  If she determines herp 1 is the cause, which her guess is also the same as yours, husband gave to me.  She also thinks because we have been together this long with oral sex from the beginning of our marriage, symptoms on vulva would appear long time ago.  One guess is he came into contact with the virus during the time i started having symptoms on genitals.  Makes logical sense.

Its quite possible that you could have gotten this in childhood, but not genitally.  That would be an oral infection.  If you do have type 1 genitally, then your husband might have given his oral infection to you genitally via oral sex.  He should also be getting a type specific IgG blood test.

You wouldn't get this from a river, etc.  My guess is that your husband has it orally, doesn't know it, and gave it to you genitally.  That's what usually happens.  Only about 20-40% of those with oral hsv1 ever get cold sores.

I did read that 1 usually occurs on the upper body but can also show on lower because of oral sex (mouth to genitial).  My lesions started showing last summer on the inner part of labia.  I of course was concerned because it hurt and took 2 weeks to rupture and finally go away.  I never once thought std.  I actually only in last 2 weeks considered std.
My gyno. also said to come next time I have one so she could do a culture.  I've had 4 times about 2 months apart, of lesions on inner part.  I've never had fever blisters on mouth and never had anything on my genitals until last summer.  Can you get it from swimming in a river or pets?  My husband swears he didn't stray then.  we are having marital difficulties.  I've been with him since I was 18.

Went to dr. Asked her if virus may have been acquired in childhood and just know showing.  not usually was her answer.  She is running full std workup.  I'm really worried.

Maybe.  Are you talking about genital symptoms?

With type 1, you don't know if the blood test is showing a genital infection or an oral one.  The blood tests can only determine if you have antibodies, not where the infection is.

Your best plan would be to get the next symptoms cultured to find out for sure.
