spina bifida occulta

by jlsmom, Jun 23, 2008 01:08PM
My son born on 4-3-08 has a red patch at the small of his back with a tiny tuft of hair on it. It's approx. the size of a dime - maybe a little smaller. The area is not raised. I noticed this and raised questions at the hospital but no one seemed concerned. His motor function is normal - kicking and squirming like a mad man. I alerted his pediatrician and she said that maybe we will do an MRI when he is nine months old. I am concerned that no one paid attention to this. During my pregnancy his Nucal Translucency Ultrasound came back good. He seems fine and normal in all ways could this be a potential problem or just a strange birthmark. The tuft of hair is the red flag to me. He does have a "strawberry" on his right buttock and a "stork bite" (just like me).
