Sever tummy pain

by akiefer, Jun 23, 2008 05:29PM
My son is 11 years old he has had severe stomach pain in the upper right side of his stomach, for 5 months now.  At first they thought is was apendicitis, we rushed him to the ER and the scan proved not to be his appendix.  He was in the hospital for 3 days and finally they decided it was just contipation, 3 weeks later the same pain in the same are put him in the hospital for 5 days, decided it was IBS, started him on meds for that, but still had to be hospitalized yet again for the same pain 3 weeks later.  Finally we saw a pediatric GI who took dairy away for 3 weeks, but 2 weeks into it he was back to the doctor.  They sent him for a HYDA Scan for his gall bladder, but again it came back above average.  When he has this pain once we can dull the pain a bit he will sleep 12-14 hours, and the pain seems to reoccur more often now.  He is tired of being poked and prodded.  Does anybody have any advice, they will scope him soon, but in the mean time we our at the end of our rope!  Please help us!

I am so sorry to hear this.........I was going to say HIDA SCAN but youve been there.  WOW.  And kidney stones negative right?  But that isn't in the correct area anyway.  It is front upper right quardrant right? Not rear?

Have they ck'd for Crohn's via bloodwork as a marker?

Does he get reflux when this happens?

I don't think I have an answer for you as a mom of refluxers and 17yr old who had her gallbladder removed and now her reflux is gone.  But those thoughts came to mind and so I wrote them out.

The other question ... has he had an ultrasound vs CT Scan?  I assume so with so many days in the hospital. ??

The only other thougth is some type of intestinal cyst like a duplication cyst that my son had .. but A) it is very rare and B) would show up on an ultrasound most likely .. but something like that could twist and cause severe pain and not be obstruction nor be appendix .. the only way they know you have something like that (from birth) is when it causes pain but they must have ruled it out I am sure.

I am so sorry not much help but maybe my brainstorming will lead you to an answer as you think too ?
