Shortness of breath+ fainting spells

by izehoze, Jun 25, 2008 01:01PM
I am 25 years old and female. Recently I experienced a fainting spell, I have never fainted before. In the last 4 months or so I had shortness of breath while was not doing any activities, like sitting in the kitchen talking with my mom, or having a walk, I was not walking quick at all... or while watching TV.
I had ploblems with my heart rhythm before, EKG was normal, and after pushing a little they hooked me up in a 24 hour EKG (in Hungary/Europe). I was 7 months pregnant at that time, and the test showed fast rhythms, around 170 per minute during the night was the highest. They told me it is related to the pregnancy, nothing to worry about. I do feel fast rhythms here and there, but never fainted before in my life.
Also I would like to mention that I suffer from severe migraines since the birth of my first child 5 years ago, and just before migraines my feet and hand swell up, and feel like my heart is beating faster then usual.
During my fainting episode a week ago I was duing my normal morning rutine, and when I went to the bathroom to fix my hair I suddenly had a heatwave, I was soaking in sweat within seconds and my heart wanted to jump out of my chest. Also I could not feel my legs from knee down and just wanted to get to my bed to sit down. I laid down for about 15 minutes, but overall was not feeling good. I went to the doctor, and did not do anyhting other then taking my blood pressure and told me to rest for the day. he also told me that if this continues often then I should see a cardiologist.
Do you think I should see a doctor now, my family doc ignored the fact that I'm having shortness of breath for a period of time?

I have had similar episodes.  Mine are realted to Atrial Fibrillation.  This can be treated with medication so I would recomend that you see a cardiologist or better still an elecphyisist who will do an ecg and an echo of your heart to see how it is behaving
