calcifications: DCIS likley to return?

by carolann395, Jun 25, 2008 04:25PM
My mother was diagnosed with DCIS in July of 2001.  She stays in close contact with her oncologist and has regular mamograms as needed.  Today on her routine visit, they found more calcifications on the opposite breast.  They are going to schedule a biopsy within the next couple of days.  Will DCIS likely return? What type of prognosis does this mean?  Can it be benign?

This discussion is related to reoccuring microcalcifications.

It certainly can be benign or it could possibly be something else. Congratulations to her for keeping up with things. If it should turn out to be something other than a benign finding, it doesn't have to be a return of the first cancer ... Keep in mind though that a large percentage of calcifications are in fact benign. Regards to your mother.
