mystery condition

by wiffie619, Jun 25, 2008 06:22PM
I have has this undiagnosed skin condition for about 20 years - since I was 18. The nearest thing my doc could come up with was it is like impetigo - but not contageous, I've been to various docs and looked on the net without success. Does this ring a bell with anyone? It starts with small painful spots -usually around chin but can be neck, cheek or other areas. These weep a clear fluid which crusts and turns yellow. The result is a nasty looking scab which may crack and bleed, It feels like a cigarette burn and looks like a graze. It doesn't look like acne and in fact people often ask me what happened thinking I've had an accident, rather than that it is a skin condition. I have only ever had half hearted treatment from docs. Usually an ineffective cream and no follow-up. It happens every few months and can last a week or two. Can't connect it to food, weather, stress. Does it sound like anything anyone knows?

Hi

Your condition appears to be chronic, persistent and it is not contagious. The nearest differential that I can think here is an eczema. Eczematous skin conditions  usually present as a red rash with red borders and they may be weeping and itchy. There may be excoriations present which may present with a scab. The scab may cause the rash to look worse. You may need topical corticosteroids for this as eczematous skin conditions are not infectious.
