cervial disc displacement

by 4ilove, Jun 26, 2008 09:13AM
I was injured in a head on truck/van car accident 8 months ago.  After 3 weeks of horrible left arm pain with weakness, numerouse xrays and catscans, I finally had a MRI that showed c6-7 foraminal disc protrusion with severe left foraminal narrowing.  I was told by 3 surgeons to have a cervial disectomy with fusion.  I resisted hoping the injury could heal it self.  Well just had another MRI and there is no impingement, however, there is still a central discp protrusion narrowing the ap diameter to 10 mm.  I have horrible left shoulder pain now.  The NS said I am no longer a surgery candidate...yeah! and thinks I tore my rotator cuff, so now he wants an mri of my shoulder.  Could the shoulder pain be from the disc bulge at 6-7?  I also have/had a milder right paracentral disc protrusion at 5-6 narrowing to 9.8 mm.  And can anyone tell me what a hemangioma like lesion in the c7 vertebral body extending into the pedicle means?  thanks a bunch

Hi there.

The degree of disc protrusion and the degree of narrowing is not enough to fully explain your pain symptoms and I agree with your doctor that there can be other problems, possibly from the rotator cuff muscles.  A hemangioma is an abnormal, benign, blood vessel formation that can occur anywhere in the body, and this should not cause any problems if they are not compressing the spine.

Regards.
