How much should a 3 months old sleep?

by Me2mommy2b, Jun 26, 2008 12:53PM
My 3 months old DS hates sleeping!  He can be up for 5-6 hours straight without being cranky but he needs to be constantly entertained when he's awake.  Is it normal for such a small baby to be awake so much?  I'd say he sleeps 13-15 hours a day.

I think that's pretty normal.  14-16 hours a day is what they usually sleep.  All babies are different, like my son always slept.  He would be up for 2 hours and then get cranky and take a nap.  This was every 2 hours and he still slept through the night.  My niece, she barely ever took a nap.  She maybe would take a 1/2 hour nap once a day.  I guess it's just your son's personality.

Oh great.  I just can't have a baby who sleeps!  DD was the same way, hated sleeping and still does.  She's a terrible sleeper now and I hope DS is not hinting that he won't be sleeping much in the future either.  I don't think I can handle 2 kids not sleeping all day long :(  13-15 hours of sleep is on a very good day, I would say.  For example, he woke up at 8 am this morning and didn't go down for his nap until 12:30 pm.  He'll probably take another nap around 5 or so.

Oh man, I hope not, just for your peace of mind.  Does he sleep through the night yet?  My son now at 7 months takes two naps.  Both at the same times as your ds.  But they are pretty long naps.  An hour and a half to 2 hours.  How long are his naps?

He was sleeping through  the night at 6 weeks but recently started waking up often again.  His naps can range anywhere between 20 minutes to 3 hours.
