severe calf pain

I am 26 year old female, and for the last 3 months on and off have been having this severe pain in my left calf.  It will be there one day when I wake up and hurt for 2-3 days then will go away for awhile.  I have been to my primary doctor and he has ran some blood tests, but tells me that it is not a blood clot.  How do you know when you may have a blood clot?  I take birth control and have high cholesterol=total 250(ldl-123,hdl-110)  I just want to make sure that they are not overlooking something

My cholesterol is mostly hereditary.  My weight is 155 and I'm about 5'5.  The last time my cholesterol was tested my weight was about 185.  I have started dieting and have lost 30 pounds.  I do not have a family history of heart disease or anything like that.  I was just wondering if I should push forward for some kind of test on my leg pain.

Hello
Ultrasound is the test of choice to identify venous blood clot. the cause of which is unrelated to your cholesterol. Why is your cholesterol so elevated at your age. What is your wait, fasting blood sugar. Your abnormal cholesterol and lipid panel may be more of a long term problem do to the predisposition for cardiovascular disease.good luck
