Sural Nerve Biopsy Chronic Pain Since Nov 2007

by painbegone, Jun 26, 2008 04:39PM
Hi!  My name is Donna.  I had a sural nerve biopsy performed in November 2007 to see if I had Neurosarcoidosis.  I did not have it but have had pain in my ankle and heel of my left foot since the biopsy.  I knew a Neuroma could form but how can I tell if it is a Neuroma or if it is just chronic pain from the biopsy?

Is there a test to see if it is a neuroma? A doctor at the pain clinic put me on Neurontin but it just made me tired.  I do take it so I can fall asleep at night; otherwise the pain is too much.  The area swells if I do a lot of walking also.  Since the Neurontin didnt work the PCP I see wanted to try Lyrica; but the Lyrica was not approved by my insurance.  He is giving me a one week trial offer and if it helps he will give me samples but How do I know if this is permanent or if it is a neuroma which I was told can be removed by a neurosurgeon.
