Any advice for Mom w/baby diagnosed w/Cardiomyopathy?

by Winifredac, Jun 27, 2008 09:47AM
Is there anyone out there that can provide any advice?  My 4 month old daughter Kaitlyn was diagnosed with Dialated Cardiomyopathy on May 29th.  It came out of no where - they took so much blood and we still don't have answers.  No one in my family or my husband's family has anything like this.

The doctors put her on enalapril, levocarnitine and aspirin and lasix.

I'm looking to talk to people that know more about this disease and can give me any advice.  She is doing well but doctors can't tell me whether she will get better or not...  Anyone please w/more info or any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the Heart Communities!

I'm sorry you have been struggling with your daughter's newly diagnosed cardiomyopathy.  I can only imagine what a shock it was to get the news.  Do you feel comfortable and confident with Kaitlyn's doctor(s)?  I'm not familiar with pediatric CM, but I'm hoping some of our members can help.

You might try posting to one of MedHelp's expert forums.  You can find the links to the right or under "forums" on the top of this page.  If you use the forums link, click on "H" and try posting on the Heart Disease, Interventional Cardiology and Preventive Cardio forums.  Wish I could be of more help.  You are off to a great start helping your daughter - by reading all you can find.

Take care
Keep us posted

How did the diagnosis come about? Was your daughter having somekind of odd symptoms?

by J1972, Jun 27, 2008 05:15PM
hi. I am sorry for youu; I know how stressful this is, as my daughter went through open heart surgery at 6 months old.

I don't know anything about cardiomyopathy, but I do know of some resources that I think are good. tchin.org I am a member of Mended Little Hearts. you can see from their website if they have a chapter in your city.

I pray that Kaitlyn recovers and you all stay strong. take care
