toddler with cleft mitral valve exposed to coxsakie

by J1972, Jun 27, 2008 10:59AM
My 26 month old had an ASD corrected 18 months ago through open heart surgery. She has a single atrioventricular valve instead of a mitral and tricuspid.  Instead of rebuilding the valve during her OHS, her surgeon opted to stitch it, leaving a small leak.

My son has coxsakie virus (hand, foot, mouth disease) which I am told CAN lead to myocarditis in rare cases.

Is this something I should be concerned about with her mitral valve?  Would it be worth putting her on prophalatic antibiotics?

Thanks!
