Posture Issues?

by t042004, Jun 27, 2008 05:08PM
I am a 35 year old male, non-smoker, 6’ 4” tall, 230 pounds. Over the last 18 mos, I have been experiencing various symptoms in my thoracic and cervical spine as well as my head. I have done a healthy amount of research on the web and seem to have zeroed in on Upper Cross Syndrome as a possible reason for my symptoms.

I work behind a desk, long days have been a norm (10-11 hrs a day, 6 days / week) for the last 8 years. I work on a laptop, and now realize that have had very poor posture over that period of time. I have had MRIs done of both my thoracic and cervical spine as well as my head in the last 6 mos.  All have come back ‘normal’ with slightly bulging disks, though nothing was noted as remarkable. The most remarkable statement by the radiologist was that at T7, the disk was noted to be “abutting” the spinal cord.

My symptoms are pervasive, although varied.  While sleeping, I routinely awake to cranial tingling (head / face). I can change position, but this does not always stop the tingling sensation. I normally have to sit up for an hour or two to get the tingling to stop. During the day, tingling in the spinal column is less common, but does occur. More common in the day time is a feeling of vertigo as my field of vision changes (either through head or eye movement) and a feeling of ‘compression’ in the neck leading to a sensation of stuffy sinuses. Normally, a self-adjustment (chiropractic manipulation) of the lower left neck relieves, but does not remove this symptom. My mid-back is normally very tight throughout the day.

My first question is if these symptoms are common to a case of Upper Cross Syndrome. My doctor can find no reason for these symptoms and is recommending I see a specialist. Secondly, what type of specialist should I see for futher tests?

Thank You
