is bottled water good to use in the formula? or do i need to use the nursery water?

by shan161, Jun 28, 2008 12:55PM
i would definatley advise warming baby milk something so cold could give them brain freeze or upset their tummy also cold baby milk can cause colic,
all babies nappies are different some may go once every 5 days others 10 every 1 day, unless the stools are more like water then i wouldnt call it dia....
but bear in mind that babys poo is usually quite runny anyway x

always cooled boiled water as its sterilised x

my baby needed the water to be warmed(at the hospital it was room temperature) or he would throw up..just as he did at the hospital. As someone said, it causes their tummies to hurt.. the milk should be warmed..better on their bellies

The water, you can use your tap water(I did) AS long as it is sterilized....You boil the water for 5 minutes(same as you would before sterilizing bottles...and NEVER directly boil bottles..drop them in once the water has stopped boiling...sorry stupid thing but many dont know how and thats fine.. I didn't lol) But for your water for bottles, once the water has boiled let it cool down to room temperature and store in a jug or something...I would do this every night or so.. I would boil water and then let cool down and store in a 4L jug and do this every 2 days or so...

Now the poops.. TOTALLY normal.. you will find later that your son will no longer poop as much and then think something is wrong but it is all normal.. My DS would go about a week without a poop at one point...

Yes six poopy diapers sounds totally normal for a baby this young. Later on they will decrease.

thank you very much, we are fighting here to get him to latch on my breast and he won't. he seems to be so stubborn, but I now that my breast are very engorged , i am trying to pump evry hour for him! I did not know that a newborn will keep you that busy it is 5:00 in the after noon, and i just got time to eat something, but he is worth it!

Have you worked with a Lactation Specialist? She could help you figure out why baby isn't latching on properly. It's a pain to pump....it would be nice if you could get him to just eat from your breast.
Call the hospital he was born at and ask what they suggest. Some Lactation Specialists will come to your house even.

He probably can't latch on because your breasts are so engorged. Try emptying your breasts a bit and then try. Once they deflate a bit he should have more luck...Consult with a lactation consultant, they'd love to help.. Or AndiJ seems to be a good informant :)
Also, I wouldn't pump every hour. The milk is made to feed supply and demand. Your body will keep making a ton of milk if you keep pumping that much.

by Jenny100, Jun 28, 2008 03:57PM
Thats true kellym. Pumping every hour may be CAUSING her problem--shes making a ton of milk and getting engorged BECAUSE her breasts think they need to make so much. Then baby cant latch on.

can i just add there (sorry) to percivere, breast feedin can be stressful and your baby will pick up on the fact that your stressed so just keep calm and keep trying remember everythings easy once you know how x

Pump every 2-3 hours instead.  You want to pump the way a newborn feeds.  So typically, a newborn will feed every 2 hours.  Although, don't be surprised if your baby wants to eat every hour at first.  Breastfed babies don't get as full off of breastmilk as they do off of formula.  I agree to speak with a lactation specialist, my son wouldn't latch properly in the beginning either.  The hospital where I had him offered some classes so I went.  It made a world of difference, after that I had no problem getting him to latch on.  I could even latch him in a bunch of different positions.
