Ongoing Back Ache Spreading

by Aiwin, Jun 29, 2008 12:49AM
I'm a seventeen-year-old and i've had minor back aches for the past five years. At first they were rare and only happened if I was overly active on a certain day, but over time they've grown a bit worse and now I can't dance for too long a time or stand around a place for too long without having aches. And just a year or two after it started, the aches spread to my neck area. That has also gotten worse to wear the neck aches will spread into a head ache or migraine every two weeks or so. And this is without too much exercise. I haven't thought much of it, since painkillers generally help, but in the past year my knees have been aching as well. I can't bend down too far for too long without them hurting. And in the past six months, my wrists and elbows have started to ache. My parents won't pay for a chiropractor unless it's something I really need to be checked up for. So...what might it be?

Note: I've already been checked for scoliosis. That isn't it.

Hi,
I'm 20 yrs old, & started to have back pain when I was 12. It spread to other joints as well & I was later diagnosed with a form of juvenile arthritis. If it's not just your back that's hurting I would go to your pediatrician to see if they recommend that you go see a rheumatologist. The rheumatologist can run tests to see if you have any type of arthritis. I hope you feel better. Please let me know if you have any more questions; I know it's tough to be young & in pain without a clear diagnosis or treatment.
