Disectomy

by Spiritled2, Jun 29, 2008 08:23PM
July 2nd I am going to have a disectomy.  I have a ruptured disc pushing on my nerve causing me to lose feelings in my legs and function of my legs.  My doc said this will help the leg pain but not the back pain. My question is will it make the back pain worse?  Also what is the success rate of these surgeries and recover time?

I don't think it will make your back pain worse, possibly better.
For back patients who undergo surgery, 15 to 20 per cent will fall into the category of 'the failed back' - the official nomenclature for people with chronic, considerable back pain that doctors can't fix.
Good luck! hopefully everything will be fine!
