I have been offerred the above procedure as I have pain related to nerve entrapment caused by extensive osteo athritis that does no longer respond to other treatments. It has been explained that part of my skull will remain numb for as long as the nerve does not regenerate but Iwould like to know the risks, or other side effects and also the recovery period for this type of procedure. Many thanks, lme232

Hello Dear,
Initial pain relief after occipital neurectomy is durable in only approximately 50% of patients, and the recurrent pain is frequently more disabling than the initial symptoms the nerves can be severed at the point where they join the scalp. The person is pain-free, but sensation is permanently lost in the affected region of the head..You should consult your neurologist and discuss with him.
