Temporary filling

by perryf12, Jun 30, 2008 10:26AM
I had a temporary filling in a left upper incisor in an attempt to save a tooth after major decay was discovered under an old filling. An endodontist said that it would be difficult or impossible to do a root canal because the canals on this tooth are calcified.

My dentist said if the tooth seemed OK, he would put in a permanent filling in a few weeks. Now the gum above the root of this tooth is sensative and I feel generally under the weather. I called the dentist and he said it was probably nothing to worry about. I work far out of town--is it worth missing work to see what an examination shows? I feel tired and that whole side of my face feels a bit weird--what's going on here and does it have anything to do with my tooth?

Also, my dentist had previously x-rayed this tooth because the adjacent tooth had an implant and crown. Is it odd that he didn't discover this decay before it became an emergency?

Thanks.
