update...back from doc..

by lolagrl, Jun 30, 2008 11:06AM
just wanted to send out an update..went to the doc today i am just bout to hit the 11 week mark which is exciting in itself..but they did another ultrasound and my peanut is actually starting to take form..its so amazing..im a little unsure y but they havent used the doppler yet to listen to the heartbeat..they did look for it in the ultrasound though and said all looks great..however i did get a little news i wasnt expecting.she told me that my pap smear came back normal but tested positive for low risk hpv..which completely came as a shock to me considering i have annual paps and get tested for things regularly..i am only with one partner who is also only with me but we do it to be safe anyways u never know.especially with something like this that the doc told me i couldve gotten years ago..she said its low risk and nothing to worry bout but how can i not?could it be a mistake?and am i supposed to tell my partner..im kind of freakin out any input would be nice...thanx

hpv is EXTREMELY common don't freak out it is so common they created a vaccination for it and it is true you could have gotten it years ago   it is not what I would consider an std but more of a common bacteria like when u got ckicken pox nearly every womanin america has been told they have hpv at some point or another.  There are all kinds of differnt strains of it some of which are more likely to cause cervical cancer and some that cause genital warts..be happy you don't have these strains..low risk is just that low It's up to u if u want to tell your partner but it is nothing to be ashamed of so try not to panic

I had this show up with my first child. I had only had one sexual partner ever, so I knew the culprit. Low risk means they are wart causing verus high risk which means cancer causing. They must keep an eye on your nether regions and administer a special antibiotic in the baby's eyes when he/she is born. With mine they were really close to the opening, so after I had DD, they cut them out as they were sewing up my episiotomy. Since then, I have not had a reoccurance and no problems. You can carry it for years at time from what I understand, but are most commonly caught during pregnancy due to our fluctuating hormones causing them to grow. I am now 12 weeks and still no problems. I would more than likely tell your partner, it is possible for him to become infected if the warts present themselves and then he could be a carrier and pass it on to others without even knowing it. Men very regularly show any symptoms at all. Some women never have any symptoms at all including the warts, so just keep an eye out for any abnormal formations down yonder. Let me know if you have any other questions.

i had my pap done when i was 9wks and it too has come back abnormal and my doc actually wants me to have a coposcopy done (which i refuse while pregnant). since ive been 15 y/o ive had normal/abnormal pap smears and i have HPV. HPV strains run in numbers...certain numbers are low risk, some are high risk, others can cause genital herpes and some cervical cancer.  just b/c you have HPV doesn't mean you have or wille ever get genital warts also. i have the cervical cancer strains and have had a cervical biopsy. if your doc says its low-risk its just something to keep an eye on. honestly your next pap could come back normal, thats what happened to me. best of luck!

i do feel better hearing and knowing this but u all must understand how unbelievabley nervous i got.believe it or not i work for a dermatologist i know all about hpv..difference is i usually see the men with it that are presenting.and i m positive if my man ever had any id know it immediately..but they did say low risk and i have yet to see any evidence of an actual wart..which i hope to god never shows its ugly face.i am still conflicted on whether to tell him though because i know him and his mentality and i dont think hed understand the whole it couldve happened years ago thing and might start thinking something else... i guess im just gonna ride it out and hope next pap turns out normal..but i just wanted to make sure it would have no effect on the baby...thanx again guys...im glad i have people to turn to.

I have a high risk HPV and as far as I know, as long as your paps are normal you are perfectly fine.  That's why if they turn out abnormal you should always keep up with whatever treatment your doctor wants you to do so you could prevent cervical cancer. Because of my hpv status and before I got pregnant I asked my doctor if it could affect anything if I got pregnant and he said no.  Your doctor is right, this could be an infection from a long time ago.  In fact, most people carry the HPV virus anyway so I wouldn't even worry.
