What do I do know? con't...

I started feeding the baby strictly table foods, and still breastfed only at night. The pediatrician suggested that I feed him meats that are higher in fat, butter, whole milk, and ice cream. He only likes the texture of chicken and fish, and spits out all other types of meat. He consumes one of the following everyday: cheese sticks or single wrapped blocks, hot or cold cereal with whole milk, a yogurt, whatever we eat for lunch & dinner  (chicken, turkey, some types of cooked beef, rice or macaroni & cheese, beans, etc.), a banana, an 8oz. pediasure, a 4 oz. bottle of whole milk, some Teddy Grahams or Goldfish crackers, fruit (watermelon, grapes, berries, etc.), and breast milk at night. As you can see he eats alot. So, I was expecting a significant weight gain. There was none. He went from 15lbs, 3oz., 27 3/4" in May, 16lbs, 1oz. 28 1/8" in June to 16lbs, 4oz 28 5/8" today. His brain and motor development is actually ahead of the curve, head size is on target, but the weight and height are almost at a stand still. The pediatrician suggested feeding him whipping cream instead of milk, pouring oil on his foods, and to get one more meal in to his diet. When she said this, my immediate concern was, "What happens when he gains this weight, and we need to get him away from all of these fatty foods? What if this cause a lean towards obesity later on?". When I expressed my concerns, she lashed out and told me that the baby could have cystic fibrosis, and might not make it to a later on. So, now, I really don't know what to do! What is cystic fibrosis? What is he is just an FTT infant? Me and my siblings were. What am I supposed to do now?

He has grown a little and gained about 1 lb. in one month. Suggest giving him Pedisure 3 times a day. Use Pedisure also in place of milk as in cereal, etc where you would normally use milk. Pedisure is a nutrient dense drink that would give him extra calories and protein. Suggest getting your child tested for cystic fibrosis (CF). They can test for it now at an early age. It is a chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system which the body produces thick mucus that clogs the lungs (causing lung infections) and pancreas (stops the enzymes from breaking down food for the body to absorb it). For more information on this disease visit the CF foundation website www.cff.org
