PEG feeds

by JC0223, Jun 30, 2008 01:13PM
Just wanted to find out if any hospitals do continuous 24 hour PEG feeds.  My father is getting 24 hour PEG feeds and I feel his stomach needs a rest.  But I may be wrong on this.  Thanks

Yes, most hospitals do have 24hr PEG (tube) feeds. It is a calculated feeding based on the person’s calorie needs and it slowly goes into the body. It actually keeps the body’s digestive system maintained fairly even. The stomach juices (small amounts) continuously digest the formula and body's blood sugars are not peaking and then dropping from digesting the formula.
