What is the probability of contracting HPV from one encounter of condom protected vaginal sex?

by Edward W Hook, MD, Jun 30, 2008 09:28PM
Unknown.  We do know that HPV is readily transmitted leading to acquisition rates of about 5-20% per year (at least) among women following beginning to have sexual intercourse.  We also know condoms offer a great deal of protection.  Thus, the risk from any single episode of condom protected intercourse is, I would guess, 1-2% per episode at most.  this, as I've said is just a guess.  In many ways however, I must say your question is really a bit silly.  current esimates are the something more than 85-90% of sexuallly active adults will get HPV at some time in their life.
