genital herpes and kissing

by jeremy203, Jun 30, 2008 07:08PM
I know a person with genital herpes, and I know that the virus is carried in fluid such as blood, semen, saliva, etc. My question is can this type of herpes be transmitted during kissing? If the virus is carried in the blood and is active or shedding, will just kissing mouth to mouth transmit herpes? Or does it need to be in contact with the infected region (the genitals)?

Where did you read that is carried in Blood? Herpes is a skin infection and the virus lives in a Nerve Ganglion and when it comes out to play, we call it an Outbreak!! It surfaces on the skin and sheds and this is where it can infect people. Some people have such a mild outbreak they have no idea they are shedding the virus but they are!!

Yes....Unfortunately I have HSV Type One...which is "Oral".  However It was transmitted to me through oral sex, which means my partner's saliva transmitted it to my vag.  I haven't developed any cold sores on my mouth, however, I can still transmit it through kissing.  You can get either type of herpes either way.  The chances are just diferent in all cases. Hope I helped.

Ummmm, let's break this down a little bit. You say you have HSV1 Oral and then you said you got it Vaginally.. So which is it? If you have HSV1 Orally, you're not going to catch it again vaginally. When you are infected initally with the desease, you build up antibodies to prevent another infection. It is sort of like self vaccinating yourself when you get infected the first time because ir prevents you from getting it a second time somewhere else. If you have genital HSV1, you can not give someone HSV from kissing them!!! If you have it Orally this is very true when you are having an outbreak! Now if you have HSV1 Orally, it is very possible to still contract HSV2 down below. Sorry KitKat, your story doesn't make sense so could you explain what you have exactly. Maybe you typed something wrong but read what I wrote and see if you can apply it to your story...

Go to the STD Board and read Doctor's Handsfield and Hooks comments on this very subject and you will see. They are STD Experts!!! Your general everyday doctor isn't trained on Herpes so they don't know everything about it!! Doctors are suppose to be Gods and know everything, nahhh. I had a Doctor tell me once that all herpes virus's hurt like hell and we know that is not even close to the truth!! Check the Doctors postings on here and youw ill see Kit... :)
