Lightheadedness, muscle fatique.

by Avalou07, Jun 30, 2008 07:34PM
I'm a 30 year old female that was diagnosed with Graves disease 8 months ago. I've been on PTU this entire time. My levels have been on the Hypo side for the last 6 months. I had stopped the medicine 3 weeks ago to have an uptake done and to get my blood drawn. I had to be off the meds for 10 days and everything came back normal. Like my thyroid was going into remission.  But several days after stopping the meds I felt dizzy, lightheaded and nausiated. Also have to pee alot.  I have told my dr and she said that my levels were normal but she wanted me to go on 25mg a day for fear I might return to hyper. So I have been on that for 2 weeks and still feel lightheaded. Today I went to the ER because not only did I feel lightheaded but I also felt like I was on muscle relaxers but I wasn't. Like my motor skills were off.  First I felt lightheaded then I could hardly walk, couldn't talk right, slurred speech, delirious, frequent urination. NOT pregnant. They did basic test and everything came back normal. They did test my anitbodies, t3 and t4's they were in the normal range. Anyone got a clue?

Have your electrolytes and blood sugar levels checked...(Eg.potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium) If any of these are low or high, they effect your blood pressure, heart rate, thinking, and muscle coordination...sometimes thyroid problems can cause low or high blood sugar problems as well...And if your sugar is running high, or your blood calcium is elevated, your body tries to equalize it by urinating it out...Hope this helps...

You need get and keep a copies of your labs so you can know what your numbers are when you're hyper or hypo.

I wonder if you're having silent migraines without the headache portion. That's what I experienced recently when I became hyperT. I had very similar symptoms to yours: lightheadedness, dizzy, nauseated, slurred speech, difficulty walking, and my motor skills were off. Of course some people get the migraines when they're hypoT.
