Desperate for answers

My Husband was a very healthy man. In september of '07 thngs tooks a drastic turn.  He woke up one morning with a pain in his leg and back, followed by rapid progression of numbness,weakness, and severe painin his lower extremities.  Within a few weeks this subsided, much to our relief.  However, in December, the same things came back, along with weakness numbness and severe pain in all extremities, blurred vision, urinary/bowel incontinence(intermittent), severe back and leg pain, and an inability to walk.  This too cleared up within a few weeks.  Fast forward to January.  Same onset as december, again starting with the leg pain, all of the usual symptoms, this time more severe, this time including falls, confusion, and forgetfullness, difficulty swallowing, facial droop, and ED.  This cleared up in a month. Several weeks ago, it came back again, with all the previous symptoms but now including paleness, diaphoresis(even when cool), pain in the back and extremities to a sleepless point, dizziness, and rapid weight loss.  Even the specialists at the major teaching hospital nearby are stumped.  The MRI's are normal(even the recent repeats), not even a speck of plaque, mri of spine and legs unremarkable. EMG;s and EEg's are normal. and  Most lab work is unremarkable, (with exception to slightly elevated liver enzymes-he has fatty liver disease, and the testosterone and high prolactin-the pituitary gland was unremarkable).  They have ruled out MS, Myasthenia Gravis, mitochondrial disease, porphyria, paraneoplastic syndrome,heavy metals poisoning, Guillian-Barre, and varius other diseases, but without a hint of what the cause may be. Initially it was thought it might be a vitamin b12 deficiency, but with monthly injections of cyanocobalamin his slightly low levels have returned to normal without relief.  He has tried oral doses of steroids, Lyrica, myasthenia meds, and nothing has worked.  And the pain is so severe when these attacks do come on that even Lortab 10/500 provides little relief.  
Please help.  The doctors are stumped and provide little hope of figuring out what the cause is.  I don't want to see my husband suffer, nor our three children because their precious Daddy is sick.

Have you researched lyme disease?

Hi Patsy,
  Lyme disease and most other insect driven illnesses have been ruled out, along with most common autoimmune diseases.  We really are stuck here.
