DIZZY, OFF BALANCE, VISUALLY TRIGGERED

by BurgerChefGuy, Jun 30, 2008 09:11PM
Hello: I have had dizzy spells that can last only 30 sec-1 min. I noticed these seem to happen when looking down during movement, like reading while walking, or when I scroll up or down on a PC screen, or even when standing looking in a mirror and sensing the subtle sway of my body.  Since I can trigger a spell by such movements, I think it is a visual problem. However, I now also have a sense or being unsteady sometimes when walking. I'm not sure if its from the movement of surroundings or what.  I thought maybe it was the ears, or maybe even legs, as it is a weird feeling that is hard to pinpoint.  I note that the pivot point in my neck (the actual balancing of my head).  I note a distinct subtle sway side-side/back-forth as I stand really still. I'm not sure if its from my breathing or pulse that I have that sway sensation. But, with the actual "visual trigger" thing, I think it is sensing an eye thing that is throwing me off.  I note it more especially in very bright sunlight, or in a dark room, and the transitions from one to the other.  I am worried about what I can do for such a visual problem???? THANKS!

Hi,

I would advise you to get your blood pressure and blood sugar levels checked as high blood pressure and low blood sugar levels can cause dizziness. Also an eye exam and ear exam will be useful. Blood hemoglobin count to rule out anemia which can also cause dizzy spells can be done. I would advise you to make sure that you eat regularly and maintain hydration. In the meantime please schedule an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible.
