Herpes 1

I recently tested positive for HSV-1 but how do i know if I have genital herpes or oral? I have never had an outbreak on my penis. My Girlfriend tested positive for HSV-2. Could it be possible for me to get infected with HSV-2 since I already have HSV-1?

You will not find out if your HSV1 is oral or genital unless you have sores and a positive culture test from those sores.

It is possible for you to get infected genitally. However, it is unlikely for you to get infected orally.

1: Avoid sex during outbreaks. If you do this there is < 10% chance per year that you will catch HSV2 from her
2: Use condoms. This will cut transmission 50% in addition to #1.
3: If she takes Valtrex, it will decrease the rate of transmission.

Go read the Herpes Handbook at www.westoverheights.com. Then decide which of the above is right for you.

Yup.  It's more likely for you to get type 2 from her then for her to get type 1 from you.
Type 1 is most commonly transmitted orally.
