pernicious anemia?

by Blue727, Jul 01, 2008 03:45AM
I'm a little confused as to what you need to have in order to be considered pernicious anemic?

I have high iron (iron overload actually) with a 87% of saturation, which has gone down to 70% something.  My B12 was down to 253 (got 4 injections in 1 month and it went up to 1,200 so the doctor took me off of them).  During this time, my homocysteine level was at 45.4 and shouldn't have been above the highest range number of 11.8.  Now two months later, my homocysteine is 63 something and climbing.

The other strange piece to this puzzle is I had 2 gall bladder surgeries cancelled, as my carbon dioxide levels were through the roof and the doc was afraid I would go into cardiac arrest.  The physician thought it might be a bug going around and re-scheduled me 2 weeks down the road.  Just like before, I was sedated and everything, only to wake up and find the surgery was cancelled, as the carbon dioxide levels had gotten even higher.  Now everytime I do a blood test, my carbon dioxide levels are either at the highest number of the range or over, but never below the highest number.

I just thought to have any type of anemia, you had to be deficient in iron.  I have a long laundry list of symptoms and I can see quite a few of them under pernicious anemia.  Maybe I have an absorbtion(sp) problem of some type or something entirely different going on.  I was told it could have something to do with the pituitary gland or hypothalamus, as they regulate that stuff.

Any input would be great and just wanted to thank you for taking the time to read my long boring story.  Have a great day!!!!!!
