MRI shows osteoarthritis + small bone spurs

by oilhauler, Jul 01, 2008 08:43AM
I seem to have a rare condition, my cardiovascular system seem to check out OK.  I get some back pain in the thoracic spine in the T1-2 area and the T8.  The big problem is that I get really bad chest spasm in the center of my chest near the collar bone and below.

My Neurologist says the MRI doesn't seem to show any pinched nerves or bone spurs causing the pain.  The only way to get some relief is to use the Homedics massager to attempt to align the spine.  This used to work well but as time goes on it does less good.

Could minimally invasive surgery possible help this condition?

I am open to all suggestions.
Thanks

It is a common misconception that back pain or spasm always stems from the pressure of a slipped disc or a trapped nerve.  This is misleading, the main cause of pain or spasm is inflammation stimulating nerves, causing the pain signal.

It sounds like what you're describing is soft tissue inflammation in T1/T2.T8, which can become worse over time and lead to chest spasm as well (mainly T1/T2). Given the severity of your pain and the functional limitations it's now placing on you, it probably is time to consult with a  experienced doctor, who can help you determine your next step or who you need to see. basically, most people DON'T need surgery. That does not mean that they do not have pain or spasm, it just means that there is no surgery that will be able to successfully address this problem.Take care!
