hyperthyroidism?

by clb33, Jul 01, 2008 08:45AM
I'm female, 35 yrs old.
I've been to the dermatologist twice this month for profuse sweating and problems w/my eyes (itchy, gritty, watery) and profuse sweating.  The Doc  told me not to wear makeup.  I'm going back today because the sweating is so bad (she gave me some dri-off gel that didn't work).  The sweating is on my back and head, face as the worst area is my chest.  Just vaccumming for $10 min will send me to the shower.  i had baby 2 1/2 yrs ago.  Lost tons of weight fast.  I have problems w/ADHD, Anxiety that I take medication for  (dexadrin and fluoxetine) and assumed that the symptoms were probably associated w/it.  i also have problems w/severe menstrual cramps,, hair loss, and hair breakage.  The list goes on.  However, while searching for info on the profuse sweating, I found that I had symptoms of hyperthyroidism.  My symptoms of ADHD have worsened and now I wonder if it isn't my thyroid.  What do you think?  And........what should I do?

you need to see a dr, get him to run these lab tests.

TSH
Free t3
Free t4...........make sure it is the free's
Thyroid antibody panel

you might also want him to run an FSH and an LH to check your female hormones, to rule out peri-menopause

To: Suggestions?!
I have an appt w/the Endocrinologist later this month.  i've been having heart palpitations.  Really bad!  They'll wake me up in the middle of the night and I can tell i've been thrashing around before I fully wake up.  then it's hard to go back to sleep.  Plus, I feel really wired.   I realize the palpitations is part of the hyperthyroidism.  However, I don't know if it's all in my head because I've been reading stuff about the hyperthyroid.  It's an uncomfortable feeling when my heart is racing.   My appt is on the 25th.  Is it safe to wait it out until my appt?  Or, should I call my doctor today?  i don't even know if I am hyperthroid.  I will feel really stupid if what i am having is anxiety and losing sleep over it.
