Possibly a mistake?

I got tested about a month ago for stds/HIV. I had one about 6 months before and came back negative, well after having sex with an ex, i feared I might have something becuase the girl he had been with had a track record of having sex with random people, and he did lied about using protection with her.

so i got the test a week later and the test came back positive for herpes. of course i was upset, but i had called all my sexual partners the day i found out and they went and got tested.

my question is this: everyone has come back negative, how is this possible? and i am wondering if there was a mistake in my test?

Yes there could be a mistake. What sort of test did they do? Peoples HSV test vary from day to day and sometimes it passes the border and it comes back false positive. What were your numbers and was it an IGG Herpes Select test. If it were an IGM test, forget it and go get the IGG Test...

they did a blood test and she did an internal test to check for anything else. I didnt see any papers or numbers. i received a phone call that said i was positive and that i was prescribed Valtrex that ive been taking twice a day (1 gram).

how do i find out my numbers? and how long should i wait to get another test?

Can you get a copy of the blood test you had and post the numeric results here - ie hsv1 igg 4. 7 and hsv2 igg 2. 9 or whatever it is.  We can't really help you until we see the results.

Also if you didn't have any active symptoms - prescribing you valtrex 2x/day for 10 days wasn't appropriate either.

the internal test was a pap smear, wet mount test(?), genital culture and chlamydia/gonnorhea test...which all were normal/negative.

i made an appt. to get my test results and to consult with my doctor. i am not sure what to ask for regarding my test results and what retests i should take and when to get retested?

You want to do the Herpes Select IGG Test ONLY and NOT the IGM Test.. Do NOT let them talk you into the IGM Test! It is a waste of money!!!

no need for an appointment - call the clinic today and ask them to get someone to read you the results of the herpes blood test over the phone and write them down for you.

i appreciate everyones help so much! so i got my results

HSV1/2 combo- IGM-1.10 = positive

HSV1/2 combo- IGG <0.9 = negative

they did another blood test just to be sure...so what does this mean?

disregard the igm results - it should've never been drawn on you  in the first place.

Even though you had the igg combo test done which was pretty much a waste of time and money - it's negative.  You should've never been told you have herpes let alone treated for it based on the blood tests you had done.
