Genital warts transmission

by Buef, Jul 01, 2008 12:11PM
I have been treated twice for genital warts and the warts respond well to the treatment, but I think i may have a few little ones left.  I have been having sex with a new partner and have used a condom everytime except once it broke in which I immediately removed it.  What are the chances of my partner becoming infected with HPV?  What are the chances of my partner actually developing warts?

Thanks.

If you do indeed still have visible genital warts it can be assumed you have a high viral load and are contagious.  If your partner hasn't been vaccinated against HPV, there is a very good chance he/she is infected.  Condoms reduce risk of transmission, but aren't fully effective.  I caught HPV while using a condom (no breakage) during a SINGLE exposure with someone who had no visible genital warts.  It is hard to say if your partner will or will not develop warts.  The majority of HPV infections remain asymptomatic, and even people infected with low risk strains sometimes never develop warts.  Others aren't as lucky.
