Possible exposure to STD/HIV?

by sidepart, Jul 01, 2008 01:32PM
Hi,
I am a 20 year old gay male who had a one night stand 3 days ago. I performed unprotected oral sex and unintentionally swallowed some semen. I did not receive anal sex but was inside my partner for under a minute, without any rigourous movement.. This was the first time I have given oral sex, and was inside another..

I'm worried because a day later I started having a sore throat, which today is worse. I also have back pains and yesterday evening experienced common cold-like symptoms like a mild fever and shivers..
Today I am just experiencing a sore throat and back pains. Is it possible I have an STD or worse, could have been exposed to HIV?

Thanks

These symptoms appeared too fast for it to be an std, most likely, and without a doubt too early for HIV.

However, you have placed yourself at risk.  In a week from the encounter, you can test for gonorrhea, chlamydia and NGU.  At 6 weeks you can test for syphilis, and at 3 months you can test for HIV.  Herpes is 4 months.  If you don't have insurance, you can go to an std clinic or Planned Parenthood.

Obviously, if you get any sores, lumps, bumps or discharge, you need to be seen right away.

Having unprotected sex with another man is very high risk for stds and HIV.  Condoms are a must to protect yourself, and I hope you start using them.
