bleeding during intercourse

i am a married woman with my only my husband as my partner for the last 20 years. 2 years ago during intercourse i bled some while having sex. Now it has been two years since i had intercourse and this time i was bleeding during, bright red no pain this is kinda embrassing it was all over my husband and he couldnt figure out where it was coming from i did not bleed afterwards but when i wiped there was a little spot. Now this does not happen during oral sex just intercourse any ideas???????????//

Hi.
First of all, I’m wondering why you stopped having penis-vagina sex (p-v) with your husband. Were you in pain, or injured or did you have some medical condition that prevented p-v? This could be a factor because your vaginal introitus (opening) may be tight and slightly less flexible than when you last had p-v. Lots of vigorous thrusting can irritate the tissue and cause some bleeding.
If you’re over 40, your periods may become irregular, with some spotting as well. During orgasm, the uterus contracts, expelling any tissue and blood. This isn’t harmful—in fact, lots of women experienced some spotting after orgasm.
Still another possibility is that you’re not aroused enough before you have p-v. If you’re not turned on, you’ll be dry, and your tissues can get irritated, so be sure you’re wet. If you ARE aroused but aren’t wet enough, check out the many excellent lubes available. You want one that has no alcohol or perfume (alcohol irritates those delicate membranes).
If none of the above are possibilities and this continues to cause you concern, you should schedule a check-up with your gynecologist. Good luck! Dr. J

In addition to Dr J's info, as she said your vaginal opening can get tight, and besides lots of lube, if it feels tight, be sure to have some nice foreplay that involves some gentle stretching and then go slow with the intercourse. If that works, then after getting more frequent with intercourse you could be more active.
