What dream do I follow?

by K1990, Jul 01, 2008 02:14PM
Hey ladies so some of you have heard and some maybe not.  I changed my major in school and I went from business to nursing.  In the state of Colorado there is a 3 year wait list once you get have your prerequistes done you are placed on that list.  I still have a year of prereqs. that is if I cram in like 2 science classes a semester, which is worth a try.  So it will be at least 4 years before I get into nursing school and then another 2 or so... that is 6 years and the very least, more realisticly 7 years.  Being a nurse was a dream that I had very young and just finally decided to go for it!  It will be better for me and for my family and my fiance!  The only problem is that we want a baby by the time I am 24... that doesnt exactly fit right in that 7 year plan and I will not wait and put my ultimate dream of a family on hold for a carrer!  I will not do that,  what do I do?  Do I go for it and fit a baby in there somewhere and try and finish school on time or do I give the nursing dream up to have my ultimate dream?  Waiting until afterI'm 24 is not an option and I will not wait unless we can't get pregnant, then of course I will take what I get.  What do I do?

I had an unplanned pregnany in the middle of nursing school...It was difficult but I made it through it.  I took one semester off since he was due in the middle of the semester and then had the summer off and went back the next fall.  Maybe you could alter your plans a bit too and say maybe have a baby by 26 or so that way you will be farther into the program.  Don't give up your dream, maybe just alter the plan a bit. I thououghly enjoy  my job, I have been a nurse for almost 5 years now and can't imagine doing anything else

Waiting until 26 isn't an option!  I will have a baby by 24, I will not wait and I wont give that goal and dream up.  So it is possible to finish school while having a little one at home?

Sure it is possible....women do it all the time.....I think I graduated with 5 or 6 ladies who had babies during nursing school.  Just realize going into a nursing program is a full time demanding curriculum and you will have to work hard to balance school and family life.

Would you think it would be easier to have a baby before getting into nursing school or while in nursing school?

May I ask why waiting until after you are 24 isnt an option?  Sometimes, life is about making compromises.

I just dont want to wait until after that, I want 4 kids and I dont want to be an older mom, That is one think in my life I wont compromise in.  I am will to do the hard work it takes to do nursing school and raise a baby for a year or some before I'm done with school.  It will be a while before that happens anyways.  Thanks for the advice!
