Diaper Rash and only 11 days old..

by Linzola1, Jul 01, 2008 06:04PM
I am so upset my little baby boy is only 11 days old and has the worst diaper rash. I called his peditrition ( whom of which he hasnt seen yet) and he told me to wash him down there with Leaver 2000 and use a mixture of Neosporen and vasalene and he perscribed him a cream called Nystatin 30GM. Is anyone farmiliar with that cream? I am just really skepcital about using a perscription on a newborn espically when the peditrition has not even seen him yet. Maybe I am paranoid... Any thoughts?

Also is it normal for his diaper rash to be bleeding. I know its not normal but is it common?

dommy had REALLY bad diaper rash when he was really young too! i gues it was beacause he was pooping constantly. i just kept putting desitin on it....like constantly, pooop or not. and it slowly went away. and hes was bleeding too not a lot but it was bleeding

he actually had to go to the doctors for something else and i showd it too the lady, she recomended Butt paste and or triple paste

The BEST is Desitin!! I swear by it. I've used it on all seven bums and it never lets me down!!!  lol
Of course, sometimes there are different rashes such as yeast-caused ones, and then Desitin won't heal that. But on everything else, it's a miracle. I LOVE it!!!!

my daughter used to get diaper rash reaaly young too....i breastfed...and certain things you eat can affect them...ive never heard of that cream b4 but what works good is the buttpaste brand of diaper rash cream....

I do agree with  carrie78 if your breastfeeding what you eat can give them a rash. If I ate peanut's my dd would get a rash.  Desitin work's really well and Nystatin is for yeast.  It work's really well. And if you put the Nystatin on first then the Desitin , the Destitin will help keep the Nystatin on like when he pee's. It act's as a barrier. Hope that help's. Also I know this is hard but maybe when he's sleeping you can leave his diaper open to the air which will dry out the rash and that help's too........

Dont buy any diaper rash that says creamy.  All of the thicker ones, balmex (says reduces redness in just one use and it is true) or regular desitin works well. Also we took a changing pad and put it on the floor and left AJ with out a diaper on his belly for a bit to try to air it out down there.  A lot of the problem comes from the amount of times you have to change a newborn's diaper and the amount of moisture that stays on the little butt from the wipes.  It really never gets a chance to dry.  You could also try drying his butt after you wipe it before putting a diaper back on.  It is a very common thing, diaper rash in newborns.  You'll get his little body all figured out soon.

also try the baby wipes for sensitive skin when he has the rash

I love desitin too!!! I would get the overnight cream it has 40% of zinc ( I think it is 40 but could be more) anyway most just have 10% zinc. It was the only thing that cleared up DD diaper rash when she was first born. Also I just wanted to suggest not using wipes at all. I would use the peri bottle they gave me in the hospital to rinse DD hiney off and put the Desitin on. DD is almost 11 months old and I never buy wipes I use a wet wash cloth and she has never had a diaper rash since. Anyway just a suggestion. I hope his little hiney feels better:)

Yeah, true---when Jameson has a rash, I never use wipes cuz he screams even worse. They irritate it with the wiping. I take him to the sink and wash his bottom with warm water and soap. Then let him air dry for a while.
And I also agree--HATED the creamy Desitin. Didn't even work like the original.
LOL my whole extended family goes on 4 wheeling trips to the sand dunes, and when my brothers bottoms get chappy from riding so much, they come into my trailer asking for my Desitin for THEMSELVES!!!!!!

i am so sorry to hear that, my son is 11 days old too, he had diaper rash when he was 5 days old, i tried to keep the area always clean, never leave the poops on it, used desitin, and put some baby powder on it to keep it dry, also try to wash it with warm water and let it dry before you put diaper, but watch out for the sparklings!

Glad he's doing better.  I saw a baby come home from the hospital for a script for his diaper rash.  It happens and their little bodies and skin are so sensitive.  The Nystatin is important and you should use it, can't get it otc and should make a huge difference.  Hope he feels better soon.
