Glider/Rocker

by Cheesecake7, Jul 01, 2008 09:03PM
I am wondering if anyone can reccomend a nice glider or rocker for the nursery and breastfeeding.  I dont want to spend a small furtune, but I want it to be comfy. The ones at Walmart look nice, but DH says he has seen them but together and they are not sturdy and are noisy.   Does anyone have a glider or rocker to recommend that doesnt cost a furtune, but is nice and comfortable?  Thank you!

hey hon,
my fiance and i bought a swede looking rocker from walmart... it didnt even last us a year. it was inexpensive and comfortable, and we definately got some good use out of it. we had it in our living room and it was constantly being used... i might actually buy another one for the babys room... i know it will definately last longer in there!! lol

My sis bought a glider for her first and it broke too.  For her second my mom and I bought her an old fashioned - Amish made Rocking chair - really heavy duty wood and nicely made - it did run us about $200 but it is something that will last forever.  They had the gliders too, but we steered clear of them.  I don't know if you have access to any hand made furniture or not, but my sis says it was worth it and I think I am going to buy the same for my first.

I bought an upholstered recliner/rocker from best chair company.  It cost a little extra but well worth every cent.  I slept in this chair the first couple of months... My son is almost 5 months and we still use it all the time.  I see us using it well into his childhood.

Here is a link.

There is a place on the web page to find a local dealer.

It's been a while since this thread was started but i'll add my pick:

There's also a gliding ottoman that can also be bought to go with this glider.  Very comfortable!

If you get the infant accustomed to 'rocking' to sleep, then you will spend endless hours trying to stop the rocking, raise from the rocker and place the infant in the crib... 9/10 times, the infant will awaken and begin crying again...DON'T BUY A ROCKER!!!. (same as going to sleep in a moving vehicle; as soon as the vehicle stops, you're wide awake.)
Sitting comfortably in a chair, and gently patting the infant on the back has been proven the best (patting on the infant's back simulates mommy's heart beat while in the womb) method of putting the infant at ease, and you can continue this while gently placing the infant in the crib... On the otherhand, you may be an insomniac and will enjoy the rocking too :)
