left side breathing queasiness

My breathing is labored, and it feels more like it's on the left side. Feel it more at night or at rest; maybe a little worse when lying down. The symptom helped wake me tonight. Sometimes I try coughing to feel better, but it doesn't do any good. There's no pain, though a little tightness on the left.

For a number of years, I've had some tightness when breathing at certain times of the year, but this left side thing is troubling.

EKG normal, lung x-ray turned up nothing, nurse said my blood appeared well oxygenated, exercise regularly without problems, weight normal, 52 years old, male, healthy diet, light smoker (under 10 cigarettes/week; years ago smoked a pack/day).

Any thoughts on what it could be?  Could it be allergies or humidity? How should I pursue this? Thanks.

On edit: I shouldn't have used the word "queasiness" in the title. I was trying to describe the sensation, but I'm certainly not at all nauseous. Sorry.
