life span stuff

by Mary4now, Jul 02, 2008 09:00AM
Hey, I was tested in 1/08.. VL 800,000 geno 1, stage 1, grade 1, 58 yrs. old.  Possibly infected since 1971, or maybe 1980,  I mean how do you know?  With this grade, stage I could have been infected later correct?  Or could I have the virus that long and still show minimal damage.  I snorted up until up until 84, no other risk behaviour
There are so many scenarios with this virus.. than life span info sounds strange to me.  What is my question?  I dont really know any more... I guess this is more a comment.   My understanding was that MOST people die w/ the virus, there is a small 20% population that die of it and maybe there are other factors within that population... Thx for listening..

The percentage of people who win the lottery - now that's a small percentage.  If the number of people 'that die of it' is 20% - now that's a big number.

Well, I am a 1/1, age 60, probably had hep C since 1970 or so, and my hepatologist said I have only a 20% chance of becoming cirrhotic.  I could have QOL (auality of life) issues, but I most certainly would not die of hep C and cirrhosis.  It is very possible to be infected for as long as you have and to by only a 1/1.  Our bodies are all differenct and some of us seem to have the mechanisms to keep the virus or the inflammation it causes in check.  So, if all you are worried about is life span, close the book

Well, I admit I was kind of guessing at the "die of it" part.  I knew there was a 20% something and it sounds like that may be the cirrhosis.  I dont know I'll ask when I get my new bloods back.  I also know that my provider said most people dont "die of it".  so I will end this craziness and go to sleep.... Life just keeps getting weirder for the most part, I just wish everyone well and the best of luck.... M
