How reliable is my result???

by Going mad with worry, Jul 02, 2008 04:03PM
Hello I am hoping someone will be able to give me some advice, I have recenly had a HIV test done at 9 weeks after a small risk exposure this test thankfully came back negative.  I cannot seem to relax as there si so much attention around having to wait 12 weeks to have a conclusive result, how accurate is my result? Is it likely for the result to change after 9 weeks?

I thank you all in advance for your help and support, I am seriously becoming very stressed with all of this

it is HIGHLY unlikely that your 9 week test will change.  it just doesnt happen...BUT...according to guidelines...a 3 month test is conclusive.

anytime after 3 mounths is concliusive,if you want know early take NAT test or rna pcr but  thise tests dont really expensive ,so better to wait 3 more weak.Good luck

these tests that you keep telling everyone to take are NOT used as diagnostic tests.  please stop telling everyone to get one.

its only one aproovet hiv test rna pcr by Roche amplicor , and  if thay not aproowet whay quest diagnosteek test fasility recomend those test for early detection for hiv,and whay illinoys state lab perform nat for all people hu test negative by unigold rapeed test to just make schure  acute infection  not hapen. What you are doctore ?or have any medical degree relaited to hiv ?,if not stop telling people what to post, okay.NAT  not aproovet for diagnose but its really good test wich used  in blood donation centers for early detection hiv infection, some people  cant whait 3 mounths oto test, what is your answear to thise people ,whay dont detect possibble infection early ?

There you go again giving out false information. A PCR-RNA is not a diagnostic test it is a supplemental test used to help diagnose HIV. It's not a stand alone test and has to be followed up with an antibody tests. A conclusive test is 3 months period. There are no test approved to give a conclusive test earlier than 3 months.

I had a needle stick injury and had a standard antibody test.  You honestly are misinformed.

4-6 weeks are typically reliable as stated by most infectious disease doctors and, surprisingly, our friend HHH.

3 months is conclusive - the andibody test has to be taken because the PCR test is not standalone

the PCR is only used as a makeshift standalone in newborns with HIV + mothers who pass the antibodies to the newborns for several weeks, the PCR's job is to search for the actual virus in those newborns.
