How accurate is an EKG?  Does it always detect a past heart attack?

A 12 lead EKG is pretty accurate at picking up the signals. Where you run into trouble is interpreting the EKG. The computer generated "answer" is not very accurate. It really takes an experienced cardiologist to read it and in some cases, get another cardio to give their opinion as well.
